Well a promise broken, it was one I made to my wife to not attend a Comic Con this year. But when there was a guest appearing, probably one of which I would not have a chance to meet again; breaking a promise was not taken lightly.
The guest in question was none other than Lucy Lawless.
Lucy Lawless: From Xena to Alexa Crowe
As a resident of Auckland, New Zealand, my chances of meeting Lucy Lawless again would be slim if I didn’t take it now.
Lucy landed the role of ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ in the show, ‘Hercules: The Legendary Journeys’, that led to her own spin-off show, ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ in (1995), for six seasons.
Lucy has also appeared in the classic TV series, ‘Battlestar Galactica’ (2004), in the semi-regular role of ‘D'anna Biers,’ among her many other varied roles, including the hit Adam Sandler movie, ‘Bedtime Stories’ (2008). Lucy was also in several made-for-TV movies including: ‘Locusts’ (2005) and ‘Vampire Bats’ (2005). She also lent her voice to the straight-to-video movies: ‘Justice League - The New Frontier’ (2008) and, ‘Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight’ (2008). During 2011, Lucy appeared in the "No Ordinary Family" as the mysterious "Mrs. X" and also appeared in the prequel to ‘’Spartacus’ (2010), ‘Spartacus: Gods of the Arena’ (2011) and "Spartacus Vengeance" as "Lucretia".
As of 2019 she can be seen starring as ‘Alexa Crowe’ in the Auckland-set mystery, ‘My Life is Murder’. It follows the adventures of a private investigator, who solves the most baffling crimes as well as coping with the frustrations of everyday life.
Lucy Lawless Q&A: Xena Cosplay Reaction

As an encore Lucy charms the audience with her singing skills, followed by her Xena battle cry in the video clip below. As something unique to ‘Xena’, the producers asked Lucy if she could up with a battle cry.
Lucy Lawless: Filmmaking Debut with 'Never Look Away'
2024 sees Lucy directing and producing her first film ‘Never Look Away’, a documentary on the groundbreaking New Zealand–born CNN camerawoman Margaret Moth. Margret risks it all to show the reality of war from inside the conflict, staring down danger and confronting those who perpetuate it.
The film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival 2024, alongside SXSW Film Festival 2024 and Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival 2024.
